Matera, sassi, ancient cave dwellings

Matera, just outside Puglia in Basilicata, is the site of the ancient and unusual cave dwellings.  This "town" has been continually inhabited for thousands of years.

Here you can see a photo of Coniugi Vizzietta-Lapolla, the last family that lived in this House-cave, 50 years ago. THe family and animals all lived together in the one room.
The loom taking pride of place.

Inside the Cathedral, mostly now inside renovated in Baroque style.  The Cathedral  Maria SS della Bruna e Sant'Eustachio

  1. Hi

Been there too, spectacular! I live in Italy and have written a book about my life here, Living in Italy: the Real Deal, check it out if you want at http://bit.ly/live-italy

Do you happen to known the Oltrepo Pavese region south of Lombardy? That is where I live.

Could you put my blog on your blogger 'reading list'? Then I will add yours as well, this helps our Google ranking!

    Thx
